Many markets are becoming very competitive and saturated. Companies look to expand their reach into new sectors that are similar but not in the same industry - these are "Adjacents". Meanwhile these companies are also looking at their saturated markets and see how they can increase their offerings to adjacent products and services. The question is, how do we reach them?

You need to locate an under-served or unserved pain point of targeted customesr and connect them to your offerings' exhibited USP. Thereafter leverage the accumulated brand clout of your existing market to extend to the adjacent market by making your educative-experiential marketing and sales outreach believable, workable and seductive. Once you have got the initial set of customers 'hooked' through aggressive penetrative pricing or guerilla marketing then build upon by a series of lucrative, never-before offers to expand your market toehold. Thereafter build a sustainable market recognition focused viral marketing campaign using actionable buzz marketing innovations(offline, online, mobile). For example a freelance portal can poach into a job portal customer segment by offering flexi/temp jobs' talent to small/mid sized business to help them leverage seasonal business opportunities. This particular job segment may well be under the radar of established job portals. At the same time with over 65% of all businesses being small and mid sized businesses there are many who struggle to profitably harness seasonal business opportunities due to lack of available temp talent. Also with a lot of churn in the talent market there are many freelancers available who want to seize temp job opportunities to stabilise their incomes ove a longer period. I say this from my own experience as a brand and sales disruption cosultant wherein I helped to turn around a struggling freelancer.com and made it a global leader.
